Episode: Discussion with Singer/Songwriter Bonnie Bishop

Bonnie Bishop forged her career as an independent DIY singer/songwriter in Nashville and enjoyed success recording five albums, having a song covered by Bonnie Raitt and another featured in the TV series "Nashville." However, booking her own gigs and touring for many years took its toll, and she decided to leave music behind and go to graduate school at Sewanee – University of the South for creative writing. While studying at Sewanee, award-winning producer David Cobb (Jason Isbell, Chris Stapleton, Sturgill Simpson) called her after hearing some demos. Convinced Bishop should be singing soul music, Cobb asked Bishop for her original songs. From this list, Bishop’s new record "Ain’t Who I Was" [Thirty Tigers] was created and has received critical acclaim since its release in May of 2016.
