Episode: 07.31.17: Counterpoint host Scott Harris discusses Trump proposal to send a mercenary army to Afghanistan; Trump tax cuts would benefit the wealthiest; Congressional bill criminalizes support for Israel boycott; CT climate change assembly

Counterpoint, hosted by Scott Harris, is heard every Monday night on WPKN 89.5 FM, Bridgeport, CT between 8:00 - 10:00 pm ET. Webstreaming and audio archive at http://wpkn.org

1) Paul Kawika Martin, Senior Director for Policy and Political Affairs with the group Peace Action, examines the Trump administration's consideration of privatizing the U.S. war in Afghanistan, an idea promoted by White House advisors Steve Bannon and Jared Kushner -- as well as Blackwater founder Erik Prince.

2) Matt Gardner, Senior Fellow at the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy, discusses the Trump administration's tax policy and reform plans, assessed in the group's recent report: "Trump's $4.8 Trillion Tax Proposals Would not Benefit All States or Taxpayers Equally."

3) Josh Ruebner, Policy Director with the US Campaign for Palestinian Rights discusses widespread opposition to a proposed Senate bill, the Israel Anti-Boycott Act (S. 720), which would criminalize support for the international boycott of Israel for that nation's decades long illegal occupation of Palestinian lands.

4) Ben Martin, web coordinator with the Connecticut chapter of the climate change activist organization 350.org, talks about his group's upcoming General Assembly which will take place on August 13th at Hartford's Charter Oak Cultural Center. He'll discuss the event's program and goals, as well as other upcoming actions and gatherings related to local, state and federal climate change policies.
