Episode: Connections... with Eric Cocks: Premiere Episode Sept 14, 2009
The premiere of a new WPKN show by Eric Cocks. Explores the connections between songs, songwriters, musicians, producers and people... often in surprising ways. In this premiere episode, we have a series of connections between John Lennon and Timothy Leary on three of John's well known songs. There are further connections to Tommy Smothers, Chuck Berry, Lee Dorsey and others on these songs.
Also in this episode: David Bowie, The Kinks, Sonny Rollins, Lenny Bruce, Bob Dylan, Dr Fiorella Terenzi, Les Paul and Mary Ford, Jim Carroll, Eurythmics, Jerry Lee Lewis, Master Musicians of Joujouka and early electronic music from Jean Cocteau, John Cage, Karlheinz Stockhausen and more. Plus, an in depth segment on The Beatles in mono and why that's important. The mono remasters sound incredible, revealing new layers to what we already knew. Check out Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds... a very different experience than the stereo mix. Several other mono mixes, too... which are revelatory and amazing. Tune in every other Monday at 11:30pm for further Connections... Eric also co-hosts Radio Base Camp on WPKN/89.5, Fridays from 1-4pm
