Episode: Warren Zanes Interview with Eric Cocks
An in depth interview of Warren Zanes by Eric Cocks of Connections on WPKN on Sept 12, 2011.
Warren's new album, I Want To Move Out In The Daylight, is a mix of high quality songwriting and production, great feel and tremendous openness. It's gotten high praise by Aimee Mann, Tom Petty, Cameron Crowe and many others.
Starting out with The Del Fuegos as a teenager, Warren went on to earn two Masters degrees and a Ph. D., while also becoming a professor, writing books on Tom Petty, Dusty Springfield and others, along with numerous articles for major publications. He became part of The Rock And Roll Hall of Fame as Vice President of Education and Programs. He's involved in documentary films, recently collaborating with Martin Scorsese on the new George Harrison movie, Living In The Material World. He's also Executive Director of Steven Van Zandt's Rock And Roll Forever Foundation, bringing music and art to middle school and high school students in a new way.
Warren never lost sight of the music and has just released a phenomenal new record, produced by Brad Jones and Daniel Tashian.
We talk about the album, songwriting, recording and production, along with a wide ranging conversation about music, musicians, many of the greats of rock and roll, and why that music still lives on, influencing new generations of creative artists, listeners and music enthusiasts.
The show ends with a John Lennon rarity... his demo of She Said She Said.
Thanks to Warren for his amazing work, and for his openness and insight.
