Songs From The Coffeehouse #8
1. Jiker - (Unreleased?) “Pirate Radio” 1995 (2:32)
One of three songs intended for a 7” vinyl release by this well-loved CT/NY punk/ska band. I very much enjoyed being part of the pirate crew for the chorus sections. They have recorded other versions of this song elsewhere, but this is the original!
2. Jiker - (Unreleased?) “10x32 & 1/2” 1995 (3:49)
Another song intended for the 7” single. Jiker did come out with another 7” as well as a full length CD. Both were on the legendary CT ska label Elevator Music run by the equally legendary CT music impresario Fernando Pinto. www.elevatrormusic.com
3. Jiker - (From a compilation) “Minor Threat” 1995 (2:29)
A cover song not unlike “Hey, hey we’re the Monkees” in theme, but interpreted way different from the original version by punk band Minor Threat. This song was included on the Elevator Records compilation CD “Skanarchy Vol. 2”. Here is Jiker’s Facebook page: www.facebook.com/pages/Jiker/25251888026
4. Shut Eye - Shut Eye “Early Riser” 1995 (6:44)
A Wesleyan University band with soul leanings, horns, and great keyboards, quite popular at the time on campus and beyond. They put out a full length CD of their original material. Like most college bands, they graduated and moved on to other projects and pursuits.
5. Shut Eye - Shut Eye “The Glenn?” 1995 (5:23)
The album closer, and a very good example of putting a party on the tracks.
6. Black Rose Garden - (From a compilation) “Billy Two Rivers” 1998 (2:24)
This is a heavy glam one-off cover song from a somewhat mysterious duo recorded for a tribute project honoring the somewhat mysterious UK 80’s glam band The Dogs D’Amour (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dogs_D'Amour ). Lead vocalist and guitarist Roxy showed up to the session without a guitar amp, but instead had a distortion pedal and an old P.A. head and column. I’m glad he did.
7. Sal Iacobucci - Songs For A Dreamer “Bluebird” 2008 (4:58)
Sal Iacobucci is not just a guitarist, but a Guitarist - and there is a distinct difference. His live rhythm and lead tracks, as well as his overdubs, were probably the loudest in amplification I have ever had the pleasure of capturing, and he knew how to really make his rig sing. “Songs For A Dreamer - A Tribute To Robin Trower & James Dewar” is a heartfelt and deep tribute album. Sal is a big fan of Robin Trower, and Robin’s original vocalist James Dewar. This was the cleanest and most sparse cut on the album, and features CT superstar Jeff Pitchell in the role of Mr. Dewar on the vocals. Jeff is a monster guitarist in his own right, and tours and performs constantly.

8. Sal Iacobucci - Songs For A Dreamer “Twice Removed From Yesterday” 2008 (4:31)
This much heavier number features lead vocals from Memphis singer Eugene Gales, brother and original singer for the national / major label act The Eric Gales Band. (Eugene’s Facebook page: www.facebook.com/EugeneGales )I’ve come to learn that you can’t get a guitar sound like this with just one amp, or at normal high-volume levels. Sal has performed shows in the area since the release of the album under the name “Sal Iacobucci & Twice Experienced”, interpreting the music of both Robin Trower and Jimi Hendrix, and now plays out as “Sal Iacobucci & Dreaming The Blues”, expanding his groups classic guitar-based rock repertoire. 9. Shut Eye - "Run Run Run"
