Episode: 12.04.17: Counterpoint host Scott Harris discusses the GOP tax reform bills' impact; Privatizing & segregating US public education; Organizing to stop the repeal of Net Neutrality & Confronting white nationalists on the University of CT Storrs campus

Counterpoint, hosted by Scott Harris, is heard every Monday night on WPKN 89.5 FM, Bridgeport, CT between 8:00 - 10:00 pm ET. Webstreaming and audio archive at http://wpkn.org

1) Frank Clemente, executive director of Americans for Tax Fairness, will provide analysis of the Republican tax reform plans -- both the House and Senate versions that have recently been passed by the GOP majority, and the impact of these policies on working families, the U.S. economy -- as well as ATF's current campaign to defeat the legislation before it's signed into law.

2) Noliwe Rooks, director of American studies at Cornell University, author of the new book, "Cutting School: Privatization, Segregation, and the End of Public Education," which traces a path through pre-Civil War America, the Reconstruction South and 20th century “segregation academies,” busing conflicts and “white flight.” Rooks contends that if the American Dream is to have any meaning to communities of color, as well as the larger project of democracy, then integrated education remains vital.

3) Center for Media Justice Organizing Director Steven Renderos discusses his group's campaign to stop the Trump administration FCC's plan to repeal net neutrality -- and that action's negative impact on Internet freedom and the ability of marginalized citizens to communicate.

4) Christopher Vials, Associate Professor and Director of American Studies at the University of Connecticut, Storrs is one of the founders of the Campus Antifascist Network at UConn. He'll talk about protests organized by the UCONN Anti-Fascist Network opposing the message of alt-right blogger Lucian Wintrich, who spoke at a campus event on November 28th titled, “It’s OK to be White." and his subsequent arrest for assaulting a member of the audience who had taken a piece of paper off the lectern where Wintrich spoke. Professor Vials will explore the extent of tensions on campus related to far right extremist and white supremacist groups who are organizing and recruiting student members.
