 Graduating from Cornell in 1977, Duo Dickinson opened his own architectural practice in 1987.

Dickinson sits on five not-for-profit boards, including the New Haven Preservation Trust, and Mission Council of the Episcopal Church of CT. Twenty to 30 percent of the ongoing work in his office is dedicated to pro bono or at-cost work for not-for-profits, totaling over 150 projects for over 30 organizations over the last 30 years. This not for profit work includes the Town of Madison, over 80 homes for New Haven's for Habitat for Humanity, over 20 projects for Incarnation Camp, Ivoryton, CT, Temple Beth Tikvah, Madison Ct, Madison Unitarian Universalist Society, Lutheran Church of Madison, Children's Village, Valhalla, NY, Open Arms Homeless Shelter, White Plains, NY, Sendak Archives, Ridgefield, CT.

His work has received more than 30 regional and national design awards and was made a Fellow in the AIA last year. His design work has been published in more than 70 publications including The New York Times, Architectural Record, and House Beautiful. He is the architecture critic for the New Haven Register and is a feature writer for the Hartford Courant media group. His blog, Saved By Design has received over 75,000 hits in the last few years. Dickinson has written eight books. Additionally, hosts the radio series “Home Page” on WPKN Radio.

The co-founder of The Congress of Residential Architecture (CORA), Dickinson has taught at Yale College and Roger Williams University. He is now on the faculty of Building Beauty: Ecologic Design & Construction Process, Sant’Anna Institute, Sorrento, Italy as well as co-chair of their American Advisor Board. Duo will be a visiting professor at the University of Hartford in the Spring.

Duo is a 2018 Madison Sports Hall of Fame inductee, and a 2018 AIA CT First Award winner in the Architecture: The Encompassing Art category for 1001 Nights Room. His latest book " A Home Called New England"with Steve Culpepper for Pequot Globe Press was nominated for a 2018 Connecticut Book Award by the Ct Center for the Book.
