Tonight's Mic Check focused on the urgent, local case of Aymir Holland. Aymir is 17 years old, a drummer for his church, and a natural leader in his school, often stepping in to stop fellow classmates from bullying others.
On November 27, 2015, Aymir's life changed forever. He had just attended his best friend's funeral when he found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time, and he now faces 61 years in prison for a crime he did not commit.
In December of 2015, Aymir was sent to jail as he awaited trial. His bail was set at $200,000, which his parents could not afford. Aymir remained in jail for 14 months, missing a year-and-a-half of school, before his parents, with some assistance, were finally able to post bail.
This past December, a judge ruled that 17 year-old Aymir should be tried as an adult.
