Host Valerie Richardson spoke with community activist (and Mic Check host) Luis Luna about his work with the immigrant community. Luis is also working with other activists to try and get sanctuary city status for Bridgeport.
During the course of the interview, Luis and Valerie spoke about two local southern Connecticut groups who are working to protect the basic human rights of undocumented immigrants: Unidad Latina en Accion, or ULA, in New Haven and Make the Road in Bridgeport.
ULA has been canvasing neighborhoods to speak with immigrants about their basic rights in the face of raids by federal agents. Their website is www.ulanewhaven.org or by searching for ULA New Haven on Facebook.
Make the Road is leading the effort to make Bridgeport a sanctuary city. Their website is at www.maketheroadct.org. Their Facebook page has information about upcoming action meetings.
