Episode: Solidarity with Garnett Ankle

The month of August ia an interesting one. August 1 is Emancipation Day in all former and the few remaining British colonies. On August 1, 1834 slaves were emancipated in the British colonies.

On the show today, Garnett reflects on the island nation of Jamaica as it celebrates Emancipation Day with a week long list of festivities which culminates on Independence day, Thursday, August 6. Jamaica gained political independence from England August 6, 1962.  A few celebratory songs are played on the show.

Afterwards, Garnett turns to his usual roots reggae songs/poems and a few world beat selections.

Today Solidarity ends early in the second hour to make way for an extended episode of What's Your Point?
