Episode: 02.22.16: Counterpoint host Scott Harris discusses the New York Times coverage of single payer health care; Apple vs. FBI on encryption; Plan for civil disobedience in Washington, DC this spring & Bridgeport CT coal plant conversion to natural gas

Counterpoint, hosted by Scott Harris, is heard every Monday night on WPKN 89.5 FM, Bridgeport, CT between 8:00 - 10:00 pm ET. Webstreaming and audio archive at http://wpkn.org

1) Doug Henwood, a journalist and financial analyst who publishes two newsletters, Left Business Observer and The Liscio Report -- and is host of the nationally-syndicated KPFA radio show “Behind the News.” Doug discusses his recent article titled, "NYT Rounds Up 'Left-Leaning Economists' for a Unicorn Hunt," published on the FAIR.org website, and related election issues covered in his new book "My Turn: Hillary Clinton Targets the White House,"

2) Joseph Lorenzo Hall, Chief Technologist with the Center for Democracy and Technology talks about his group's position on the FBI's order to Apple to unlock the company's encryption on an iphone used by one of the perpetrators of the San Bernardino, massacre, essentially compelling the company to build a backdoor that can be used for surveillance by law enforcement, or exploited by hackers.

3) Kai Newkirk, Campaign Director with the group Democracy Spring discusses plans for non-violent civil disobedience inside the U.S. Capitol this April in protest of big money and corruption in American politics and partisan efforts to suppress voting rights -- part of the larger Democracy Awakening mobilization in Washington, D.C. this spring.

4) Diane Lentakis, an activist with the Connecticut chapters of the Sierra Club and climate change group 350.org offers her perspective on the Bridgeport, CT City Council's recent approval of a plan to convert Bridgeport's Harbor Station coal fired electric power plant to natural gas - and continued opposition to that plan which trades one fossil fuel for another.
