Episode: 08.03.15: Counterpoint host Scott Harris discusses opposition to oil drilling in the Arctic; Expansion of Medicare for all; Lawsuit launched against EPA for approval of Nanotechnology pesticide & CT NAACP call for an investigation into death of Abe Dabela

Counterpoint, hosted by Scott Harris, is heard every Monday night on WPKN 89.5 FM, Bridgeport, CT between 8:00 - 10:00 pm ET. Webstreaming and audio archive at http://wpkn.org

1) Daphne Wysham, director of the Climate and Energy Program at the Center for Sustainable Economy discusses the ongoing campaign to stop oil drilling in the Arctic and the recent civil disobedience actions organized to block Shell's icebreaker MSV Fennica from moving out of Portland, Oregon’s harbor

2) Marking the 50th anniversary of the Medicare program, Vijay Das, Healthcare Policy Advocate with Public Citizens Congress Watch, talks about the current effort to expand Medicare to a new program that covers the health care needs of all U.S. Citizens -- in essence to initiate a single payer health care system very similar to health insurance programs that operate in virtually all other industrialized nations around the world.

3) Jaydee Hanson, Policy Director with the International Center for Technology Assessment discusses his group's joint lawsuit, with the Center for Food Safety, challenging the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's conditional approval of the antimichobial "nanosilva" pesticide product -- and the health and safety concerns surrounding nanotechnology.

4) Scot X. Esdaile, Connecticut NAACP President talks about his group and other's call for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of Gugsa Abraham “Abe” Dabela, a young black attorney who died under suspicious circumstances on a rural road in Redding, CT on April 5, 2014.
