Episode: 04.15.19: Counterpoint host Scott Harris discusses What Israeli election results mean for Palestinians; Advocacy for Dialogue in Strife-Torn Venezuela; Why Indictment of Assange Poses threat to Press Freedom & 31,000 Workers Strike Stop & Shop

Counterpoint, hosted by Scott Harris, is heard every Monday night on WPKN 89.5 FM, Bridgeport, CT between 8:00 - 10:00 pm ET. Webstreaming and audio archive at http://wpkn.org

1) Yousef Munayyer, Executive Director of the US Campaign for Palestinian Rights, discusses the results of Israel's election -- and Prime Minister Netanyahu's campaign pledge to annex Jewish settlements in the West Bank if reelected, extending full Israeli sovereignty over settlements widely considered illegal under international law.

2) Alexander Main, Director of International Policy at the Center for Economic and Policy Research in Washington, DC. talks about a recent letter signed by over 40 mostly antiwar, faith-based, and Latinx groups, opposing US intervention in Venezuela - and calling on the US Congress to support dialogue and negotiations mediated by the Vatican, the UN Secretary General, Mexico, and/or Uruguay.

3) Joe Emersberger, a Canadian-based writer who's articles have been published in ZNet, FAIR, Counterpunch and TheCanary.co, talks about the arrest of Julian Assange at the Ecuadorean embassy in London, and the implications for freedom of the press, if as expected Britain extradites Assange to the U.S. where he faces US federal conspiracy charges related to Wikieaks release of U.S. government and military secrets on Washington's conduct during the Iraq War.

4) A representative of the United Food and Commercial Workers union will discuss the current strike against Stop and Shop supermarkets across Connecticut and New England, with a focus on the company's proposed cuts to worker's health care, take home pay and customer service.
