Episode: 07.25.16: Counterpoint host Scott Harris discusses protests at Democratic & GOP conventions; Corporate money and its role in major US political parties; the Christian right influence in the Republican party & Sanders supporters anger over Clinton VP pick

Counterpoint, hosted by Scott Harris, is heard every Monday night on WPKN 89.5 FM, Bridgeport, CT between 8:00 - 10:00 pm ET. Webstreaming and audio archive at http://wpkn.org

1) Nadine Bloch, an artist, nonviolent practitioner, political organizer and direct-action trainer, discusses the effectiveness of protests that will be present at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia this week, and her recent article "6 Creative Ways to Make Your Point at the Conventions."

2) Russell Mokhiber, editor Corporate Crime Reporter, examines the role of corporate contributions at both major party conventions and in this year's presidential and congressional election campaigns. He'll also discuss the many ways in which large corporations that make significant political contributions exert undue influence on policy making at all levels of government.

3) Frederick Clarkson, Senior Fellow for Religious Liberty with Political Research Associates talks about the GOP's history of aligning itself with the radical Christian Right and how this year's Republican Party convention and platform reflects continued fealty to the Religious Right that advocates discrimination against the LGBTQ community, Muslims and anyone else who doesn't pass their right wing, theocratic and ideological litmus test.

4) Jeff Cohen, Associate Professor of Journalism and Director, Park Center for Independent Media at Ithaca College discusses the issue of unity in the Democratic party on the first night of the Democratic National Convention, touching on many of the points raised in his recent article, "Hillary’s VP Choice Will Show If “Unity” Talk Is Just Hot Air."
