Episode: 09.19.16: Counterpoint host Scott Harris discusses the campaign to win Edward Snowden a pardon; opposition to the $66 Billion Monsanto-Bayer merger; the banks financing the Dakota Access Pipeline & CT's landmark court case on equal education funding

Counterpoint, hosted by Scott Harris, is heard every Monday night on WPKN 89.5 FM, Bridgeport, CT between 8:00 - 10:00 pm ET. Webstreaming and audio archive at http://wpkn.org

1) Trevor Timm, executive director of the Freedom of the Press Foundation, whose board Edward Snowden chairs, discusses major U.S.-based human rights and civil liberties group's decision to call on President Obama to issue a pardon to NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden before the end of his term in office, January 2017.

2) Zack Clark, Government Relations Representative with the National Farmers Union, discusses his group's concerns about the proposed $66 billion merger between Bayer and Monsanto, as well as the impact of other recent mergers in the agricultural sector. He'll also address some of the major issues confronting family farmers in this presidential election year, and the candidate's positions.

3) Hugh MacMillan, Senior Researcher with Food & Water Watch talks about his recent report, "Who's Banking on the Dakota Access Pipeline?" and how the financial interests of the banks behind the project conflict with indigenous communities and other people living along the pipeline route.

4) Jim Finley, Principal Consultant to the Connecticut Coalition for Justice in Education Funding (CCJEF) discuss the recent decision by Connecticut Superior Court Judge Thomas Moukawsher, who ruled in the case, CCJEF v. Rell that the state's education funding system is irrational and unconstitutional -- and must be overhauled to institute a new funding formula within 180 days to ensure the state's poorest school districts have resources to provide an adequate education. Finley was an expert witness for CCJEF in the case.
