When I was a kid, there was a carnival ride called the "Tilt-A-Whirl." In the amusement park literature (an actual category!) it is described as featuring off-center spinning, whipping up and down, and triple spin motion. You never leave the ground, unlike on a rollercoaster or ferris wheel. But it takes a steady sense of balance, and you can always say to yourself, like a prayer, "it will be over soon.... it will be over soon..." These days we feel not soon enough...
