As we settle into our brand new studios in downtown Bridgeport, I want to send special love and thanks to everyone who began early with WPKN, and volunteered for decades. Special note to long-time unofficial Operations Director and sole Technician for quite a while Ray Terlaga, who built and wired the studio we are leaving, and to the late Sid Grinder before him. I grew up in that studio. Many did. There may have been dust and old carpets and ratty couches, but there are wonderful and complex memories for many of us. I learned harshly from the Covid epidemic that I was "aging," but this change, first move in 58 years for the station, really drives it home. We can be extremely hopeful and optimistic for WPKN's future under the newer leadership. The incredible hours of hard work by all those involved in the construction, packing, and move, is inspiring.
WPKN was one of the forerunners of non-commercial, alternative progressive radio. We treasure the few remaining other stations around. We humbly accept our new moniker a la David Owen of The New Yorker: "WPKN is the greatest radio station in the world." We are also part of a MOVEMENT. Alternatives to mainstream music, thinking, politics, etc., enable us to breathe and hope.
FORWARD IN ALL DIRECTIONS! THANKS TO ALL LISTENERS AND SUPPORTERS!!!!!
