Episode: 01.16.17: Counterpoint host Scott Harris discusses charges that Russia hacked the US election; Fighting back against voter suppression in the 2016 election; Self-defense in the Trump era; Protests planned for the Trump inauguration in Washington & locally

Counterpoint, hosted by Scott Harris, is heard every Monday night on WPKN 89.5 FM, Bridgeport, CT between 8:00 - 10:00 pm ET. Webstreaming and audio archive at http://wpkn.org

1) Melvin Goodman, director, National Security Project at the Center for International Policy examines the many allegations re: Russian hacking of the 2016 presidential election as well as the more recent charge that Russia has compromising material on President-elect Donald Trump. He'll also cover some of the important points raised in his recent article, "The Dark Side of Obama's Legacy."

2) Katie O’Connor, director of policy and programming at the American Constitution Society for Law and Policy provides an overview of the 2016 election and the efforts nationwide to restrict the vote of specific voter groups through onerous voter ID laws and limits on opportunities to vote. She'll also discuss these issues with an eye on how the right to vote can be protected in the future, given the hostile position toward these rights held by many officials of the incoming administration of President-elect Donald Trump.

3) Jeremy Brecher is the author of more than a dozen books on labor and social movements, including Strike! and Global Village or Global Pillage. He's the winner of five regional Emmy awards for his documentary movie work and currently works with the Labor Network for Sustainability. He'll talk about his latest article titled, "Social Self-Defense: Protecting People and Planet Against Trump and Trumpism."

4) Dante Barry, Executive Director of the group, Million Hoodies Movement for Justice talks about a broad national coalition of racial justice groups' plans for the Jan. 16-20 Resist and Reclaim From MLK to Inauguration Day protest actions.

5) L. George Friday, who represents Move To Amend on the Occupy Inauguration National Steering Committee, discusses plans for the group's protest actions during Donald Trump's inauguration ceremonies in Washington, D.C. Jan. 20th, and their Inaugurate Resistance event on Jan. 21st.
