Episode: 05.24.21: Counterpoint host Scott Harris discusses prospects for lasting peace in Israel-Palestine; Countering the GOP threat to US democracy; Opposition to CDC's relaxation of COVID Precautions; Push to expand voting rights in Connecticut

Counterpoint, hosted by Scott Harris, is heard every Monday night on WPKN 89.5 FM, Bridgeport, CT between 8:00 - 10:00 pm ET. Webstreaming and audio archive at http://wpkn.org

1) Jehad Abusalim, Education and Policy Associate with the American Friends Service Committee's Palestine Activism Program, discusses the violence and loss of life in Gaza and Israel/Palestine, the international community and Biden administration's response to the crisis -- and prospects for a lasting cease-fire and long term peace.

2) Brett Edkins, Political Director with Stand Up America talks about his group's support for the "For The People Act" and "John Lewis Voting Rights Act" to stop GOP voter suppression -- as well as their response to Republican opposition to establishing a commission to investigate the January 6th Capitol insurrection.

3) Rocelyn de Leon-Minch, MSc, MPP, Industrial Hygienist with National Nurses United, talks about the union's view that the CDC's new guidance, that vaccinated people no longer need to wear masks, except for health care and public transportation settings - and removes distancing, testing and isolation restrictions, is based on faulty science and poses a danger to public health.

4) Cheri Quickmire, Executive Director of the Connecticut chapter of Common Cause talks about her group's important campaign to pass Senate Bill 5 that would expand voting rights in Connecticut by Improving online registration and voter list maintenance through the DMV and other agencies, improving processes for applying for and handling of absentee ballots, enfranchising people on parole and permitting all prisoners to vote.
