Episode: New Haven's Artspace summer intern program 2015 -- The Jerome Project
I was joined in the studio by Mama Soumahoro and Emmanuel Luck, two interns in Artspace's summer intern program for 2015. As program facilitator Shelli Stevens explains, Mama, Emmanuel, and their student colleagues spent several weeks studying and discussing issues of race and incarceration and exploring how their ideas about this complicated and emotionally charged issue could be turned into both visual and performance art. The resulting exhibition, "The Jerome Project," is on view through September 13.
More information about this program is here: http://artspacenh.org/galleries/gallery5
This exhibit is part of an effort by a larger group of artists who explore these same themes in the exhibition "Arresting Patterns: Race and the Criminal Justice System." A symposium on this topic will be held at the Yale Art Gallery on September 12 and 13. More information about both exhibitions and the symposium is at
