Episode: Connections: Dylan at The Isle of Wight in 1969 plus new and vintage music

Aug 23, 2019 episode of Connections on WPKN with Eric Cocks. It's spontaneous! New and vintage music, plus Bob Dylan Live at The Isle of Wight in 1969. Includes The Beatles at The Hollywood Bowl in August 1965, Linda Ronstadt, Nick Lowe, Bo Diddley, Warren Zanes (who just produced a new album of women artists covering the songs of Tom Waits), Earl Jean, The Quik, Tommy James, ABBA, Rockpile, The Rivieras, Matthew E. White, Paper Pilots and more.

Also new releases from Anna Rose, Wilco, J.S. Ondara, Kim Gordon, Rachel M, Karen O and Danger Mouse, Manda Mosher, Kita Klane, SOAK, Risa Hall, Big Thief, Clairo, HAIM, Angel Olsen, Elvis Presley in Las Vegas in August 1969 (his first performance in 9 years), Eden Iris, The Squeaky Chairs, The Fossil Fools and whatever happened in the moment.

In August of 1969, just two weeks after skipping the nearby Woodstock Festival, Bob Dylan surprised many people by appearing at The Isle of Wight Festival in England with The Band backing him up. It was his first full concert since 1966 and his last until going on tour with The Band in 1974… a gap of 8 years with one concert. And he was fantastic, in great voice, changing things up on classic and lesser known songs, in a voice similar to the John Wesley Harding and Nashville Skyline sessions. Among the highlights, a beautiful version of To Ramona, I Threw It All Away and a unique version of Rainy Day Women with different lyrics. As with so much of Bob's work, he seems totally in the moment.

Thanks for tuning in!
