Episode: 07.04.22: Counterpoint host Scott Harris discusses multiple crises facing US on July 4 holiday; Activists protest the end of reproductive rights in 60 cities 7-4-22; SCOTUS extremist justices impose minority rule; Attorney offers hope on post-Roe era

Counterpoint, hosted by Scott Harris, is heard every Monday night on WPKN 89.5 FM, Bridgeport, CT between 8:00 – 9:30 pm ET. Webstreaming and audio archive at http://wpkn.org

1) Jeff Cohen, founding director of the Park Center for Independent Media at Ithaca College and co-founder of RootsAction.org, discusses his group's response to the recent Supreme Court rulings striking down women's reproductive rights, long standing gun regulations and environmental protections. He'll offer advice on how progressive activists can take action on the multiple crises we face that includes the fascist Republican party's agenda of dismantling America's democracy.

2) Emma Kaplan of the group RiseUp4AbortionRights discusses their July 4th nationwide protests against the Supreme Court ruling on Roe v. Wade striking down women's reproductive rights -- and the role of activism and protest in this critical period when the extremist majority on the Supreme Court is undermining basic rights Americans have enjoyed and exercised for decades.

3) Bill Blum, a Los Angeles lawyer and a former state of California administrative law judge, discusses his views on recent Supreme Court rulings overturning Roe v. Wade and the New York State law restricting the carrying of guns in public in the case New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen. He'll also assess the hearings thus far of the House Committee investigation of the January 6th insurrection and failed coup attempt -- and the likelihood that Trump and his inner circle will be indicted by the Justice Department for their multiple crimes against democracy.

4) An excerpt of a December 3rd, 2021 TED talk by Kathryn Kolbert, where this public interest attorney who litigated the 1992 Supreme Court case Planned Parenthood v. Casey, correctly predicts the June 24th Supreme Court ruling overturning the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision that extended federal protections for women's reproductive rights, while offering advice on how voters can come together to restore women's autonomy over their bodies.
