Episode: 01.08.24: Counterpoint host Scott Harris discusses Keeping Insurrectionist Trump off 2024 Ballot; Protesters Confront Argentina's Extremist President Javier Milei; South Africa Accuses Israel of Genocide in Gaza; Threat of Wider Middle East War Looms

Counterpoint, hosted by Scott Harris, is heard every Monday night on WPKN 89.5 FM, Bridgeport, CT between 8:00 – 9:30 pm ET. Webstreaming and audio archive at http://wpkn.org

1) Nikhel Sus, Senior Counsel, and Director of Strategic Litigation, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) talks about his role in the lawsuit, under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, that disqualifies insurrectionists from holding public office, resulting in the Colorado Supreme Court ruling that removed Donald Trump from the state's GOP primary ballot -- and Trump's lawyer's current appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn that decision.

2) Jacob Sugarman, former managing editor of Truthdig, lifestyle editor at the Buenos Aires Herald, whose work as been published at Salon, AlterNet, and Tablet, discusses his recent Nation magazine article, "Argentina’s Chainsaw Massacre Election," and the frightening first weeks of self-described anarcho-capitalist Javier Milei's new government.

3) Robert L. Herbst, is a human rights lawyer in New York, who served as a federal prosecutor in Chicago and Philadelphia and Executive Assistant District Attorney in Brooklyn, New York. Attorney Herbst, co-chair of the U.S. chapter of the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions and Coordinator of the Westchester New York Chapter of Jewish Voice for Peace, talks about his recent article, "South Africa appeals to the International Court of Justice: Stop Israel’s genocide in Gaza," that summarizes South Africa's 84 page long Application to the International Court of Justice to begin proceedings against Israel for its genocide in Gaza, that describes Israel's genocidal acts and statements in horrifying detail.

4) Mel Goodman, senior fellow at the Center for International Policy, professor of government at Johns Hopkins University, former CIA analyst and author, talks about the issues covered in his recent article, "Unmitigated Horror: Guernica, the Warsaw Ghetto, and Now Gaza," as well as growing concern about a wider Middle East war after Israel's assassination of Deputy Hamas chief Saleh al-Arouri in Beirut, Yemen-based Houthi rebel attacks on vessels in the Red Sea, a U.S. drone strike that killed an Iranian-backed militia leader in Baghdad, and the ISIS terrorist bombing in Kerman, Iran.
