Episode: 01.15.24: Counterpoint host Scott Harris discusses Why CNN Reports are Subject to Israeli Censorship; Trump's Fascist Threat to Democracy Downplayed by US Media; Courts Uphold Extremist Abortion Laws Endangering Lives; MLK's Radical Message Whitewashed

Counterpoint, hosted by Scott Harris, is heard every Monday night on WPKN 89.5 FM, Bridgeport, CT between 8:00 – 9:30 pm ET. Webstreaming and audio archive at http://wpkn.org

1) Daniel Boguslaw, an investigative reporter based in Washington, D.C., discusses his recent Intercept article, "CNN Runs Gaza Coverage Past Jerusalem Team Operating Under Shadow of IDF Censor," as well as assessing overall U.S. corporate media coverage of Israel's conduct in its brutal war against Hamas in Gaza that has killed more than 23,000 Palestinians.

2) Jason Stanley, Jacob Urowsky professor of philosophy at Yale University and author of “How Fascism Works: The Politics of Us and Them.” Professor Stanley, whose new book, "The Politics of Language," co-written with David Beaver, will discuss Donald Trump's recent tirades attacking immigrants and leftists quoting Adolf Hitler. He'll also examine corporate media coverage of Trump's increasingly fascist rhetoric, and the political response required to counter Trump who is leading or competitive in recent presidential election polls.

3) Carrie Baker, Sylvia Dlugasch Bauman Chair of American Studies and Professor of the Study of Women and Gender at Smith College, and a contributing editor at Ms. magazine, talks about recent post-Roe court rulings, that have further restricted reproductive rights, alarmingly outlawing abortions medically necessary to save lives in Texas and Idaho. She'll also examine the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to hear a case that could ultimately eliminate public access to mifepristone nationwide.

4) Rann Miller is a freelance writer, former teacher, author of "Resistance Stories from Black History for Kids: Inspiring People and Events That Every Kid Should Know," and editor of the Official Urban Education Mixtape Blog. He'll discuss the dangerous normalization of white supremacy promoted by Donald Trump and the Republican Party, as well the important issues covered in his recent article,"I was hired to write a Black history curriculum. Then I was asked to walk back key concepts." On this Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, Miller will also examine how our nation has sanitized King's critique of America's violent racism, economic inequality and brutal foreign policy.
