Episode: 12.19.16: Counterpoint host Scott Harris discusses charges Russia hacked the US Presidential election; Trump's nomination of Jeff Sessions as Attorney General; Trump's "oilgarchy" nominations re: environment & climate & New Haven 12-21-16 antiracist vigil

Counterpoint, hosted by Scott Harris, is heard every Monday night on WPKN 89.5 FM, Bridgeport, CT between 8:00 - 10:00 pm ET. Webstreaming and audio archive at http://wpkn.org

1) Coleen Rowley, a former FBI special agent and division counsel whose May 2002 memo to the FBI Director exposed some of the FBI’s pre-9/11 failures. Named one of TIME magazine’s “Persons of the Year” in 2002, Rowley discusses the FBI and CIA allegations that Russian operatives attempted to interfere in the 2016 U.S. election on behalf of Donald Trump and against Hillary Clinton, how that impacts our democracy and what they could mean for future U.S.-Russian relations and neo-conservatives who seem eager to engage in a new Cold War.

2) Drew Courtney, Communications Director with the group People for the American Way, talks about his group's many concerns and objections to President-elect Donald Trump's nomination of Senator Jeff Sessions to become the next U.S. Attorney General, including the Alabama legislator's long history of racially insensitive remarks and a disastrous record on civil rights.

3) Benjamin Schreiber, climate and energy program director with Friends of the Earth, discusses President-elect Donald Trump's announcement that he has chosen Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt, a dedicated supporter of the fossil fuel industry, to head the Environmental Protection Agency -- and other nominations and appointments, i.e. ExxonMobil CEO Rex Tillerson for Secretary of State and Montana’s freshman Rep. Ryan Zinke to become Secretary of the Interior, that underscore a Trump agenda that aims to eviscerate environmental protections and tear up existing regulations designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change.

4) Shelly Altman, co-chair of Jewish Voice for Peace in New Haven, CT, one of over 60 chapters nationally, talks about the group's Weds., Dec. 21st national Chanukah/Solstice Vigil against Islamophobia and Racism from 5:30 to 6:30 pm on the New Haven Green, at the corner of College and Chapel Streets, to challenge injustice and build a society rooted in love and dignity for all people and communities.
