Episode: 02.25.19: Counterpoint host Scott Harris discusses the rise of hate groups across the U.S.; Prospects for U.S.-Taliban Afghan war peace talks; New wave of anti-government protests in Haiti & Proposed criminal justice reforms in CT

Counterpoint, hosted by Scott Harris, is heard every Monday night on WPKN 89.5 FM, Bridgeport, CT between 8:00 - 10:00 pm ET. Webstreaming and audio archive at http://wpkn.org

1) A representative of the NAACP examines the recent arrest of a Coast Guard lieutenant, said to hold white supremacist views, who is accused of compiling a list of Democratic party lawmakers and media personalities for assassination. They'll also assess the rise in the number of hate groups across the U.S., coinciding with Donald Trump’s campaign and presidency.

2) Kathy Kelly, co-coordinator of the group Voices for Creative Nonviolence, discusses her views on the current negotiations between Afghan politicians and other former officials (minus the current Afghan government) and representatives of the Taliban -- with a focus on prospects for an eventual end to the decades-long Afghan civil war.

3) Kim Ives, editor of the Haiti Liberté newspaper, talks about the current anti-government protests in Haiti that began on Feb. 7th, calling for President Jovenel Moise to resign, set off by widespread corruption charges, Haiti's high inflation rate and unemployment.

4) Tiheba Williams-Bain, founder of Women Against Mass Incarceration, talks about a proposed bill being considered in the Connecticut legislature that would prohibit discrimination in employment, housing, public education, based on a person's criminal history. She'll also discuss the National Council for Incarcerated and Formerly Incarcerated Women and Girls' Reimagining Communities Campaign.
