Episode: 03.18.19: Counterpoint host Scott Harris discusses CT Supreme Court ruling on Sandy Hook lawsuit against gunmaker; Congress poised to invoke War Powers Act against Yemen War; US Delegation to Iran see impact of Trump Sanctions; CT Immigration Rights Bills

Counterpoint, hosted by Scott Harris, is heard every Monday night on WPKN 89.5 FM, Bridgeport, CT between 8:00 - 10:00 pm ET. Webstreaming and audio archive at http://wpkn.org

1) Po Murray, Chair, of Newtown Action Alliance assesses the ruling handed down by the Connecticut Supreme Court, reinstating a wrongful death lawsuit filed by the families of nine victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting against Remington Arms, the manufacturer of the rifle used in the December 14, 2012 massacre of 20 children between six and seven years old, and six adult educators.

2) Paul Kawika Martin, Senior Director for Policy and Political Affairs, Peace Action discusses the recent U.S. Senate vote approving SJ Res. 7, ending U.S. support for Saudi Arabia's brutal war in Yemen that has created a humanitarian crisis-- and to curtail presidential war powers, seen by observers as a rebuke of President Donald Trump's Middle East policies.

3) Bill Collins, former state representative and mayor of Norwalk, CT who founded Minuteman Media and Other Words editorial syndicate. Bill reflects on his recent trip to Iran, organized by Code Pink Women for Peace, where delegates hoped to have a significant impact in helping move the U.S. and Iran from a place of hostility and military threats to a place of mutual respect and peace with one another.

4) Alok Bhatt, Community Defense Coordinator, with the Connecticut Immigrant Rights Alliance discusses his views on proposed bill #5863 that would make Connecticut a sanctuary state, and other legislative initiatives impacting the immigrant community that CIRA is currently working on locally and statewide.
