Episode: 03.07.16: Counterpoint host Scott Harris discusses voter suppression w journalist Greg Palast; the mission of the new group Bank Whistleblowers United; Political violence in Honduras & Opposition to hospital consolidation in Connecticut

Counterpoint, hosted by Scott Harris, is heard every Monday night on WPKN 89.5 FM, Bridgeport, CT between 8:00 - 10:00 pm ET. Webstreaming and audio archive at http://wpkn.org

1) Award winning investigative journalist and author Greg Palast provides analysis of the 2016 election campaign, with a focus on the chaos within the Republican party, Trump's rancorous candidacy, and the future of Bernie Sanders' progressive platform for the Democrats. He'll also discuss the prospects for vote theft via voter suppression laws and older methods of expunging voter rolls.

2) Michael Winston, a former high-ranking executive at Countrywide Financial who tried to stop the fraud, corruption and deception he observed at the mortgage lender. Winton, now a founder of, "Bank Whistleblowers United," discusses his group's plan to curb Wall Street's corrupting influence on political campaigns and government regulations -- and the pledge they're asking each presidential candidate to sign, making a commitment not to accept campaign contributions from banking institutions and executives who engaged in fraudulent behavior in the run-up to the 2008 financial crisis.

3) Dana Frank, professor of history at the University of California, Santa Cruz talks about political violence in Honduras, including the recent assassination of indigenous leader Berta Caceres. She'll also explore the U.S. role in the 2009 Honduras coup, reviewing the actions of then Secretary of State, now Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

4) Dr. Stephen Smith, professor emeritus of family medicine and former dean at the Brown University medical school, who is currently a physician at the Community Health Center in New London, CT, discusses the issues raised at the March 3rd Hospital Change forum in New London, which examined the impact of hospital consolidation in Connecticut on heath care access, price, conditions for hospital workers and quality of service.
