Episode: 10.24.16: Counterpoint host Scott Harris discusses issues in the 2016 election campaign including the future of Social Security; What's at stake for the country with future appointments made to SCOTUS; California's Proposition 61 & Stealing US elections

Counterpoint, hosted by Scott Harris, is heard every Monday night on WPKN 89.5 FM, Bridgeport, CT between 8:00 - 10:00 pm ET. Webstreaming and audio archive at http://wpkn.org

1) Nancy Altman, co-director of Social Security Works and co-chair of the Strengthen Social Security coalition, is the author of "The Battle for Social Security: From FDR’s Vision to Bush’s Gamble." She discusses the positions of the two major party presidential candidates on the future of social security, and her group's advocacy for policy changes that will both expand benefits and ensure the system remains viable for decades to come.

2) Marge Baker, Executive Vice President with People for the American Way discusses the importance of the future of the U.S. Supreme Court in this year's presidential election, and what's at stake for Americans on the issues of reproductive choice, money in politics, the right of workers to organize unions and bargain collectively and lots more.

3) Roger Salazar a spokesperson for the "Yes on 61" campaign, explains the purpose and benefit of Proposition 61 for California's citizens and its power as an example for other states around the country. If approved Proposition 61 would regulate drug prices by requiring state agencies to pay the same prices for prescription drugs that the U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs pays.

4) Victor Wallis, managing editor Socialism and Democracy talks about his recent article, "On the Stealing of U.S. Elections," focusing on the topics of voter suppression laws, restrictions on the eligibility to participate in nationally televised candidate debates -- and the influence of big money in winning elections and holding power.
