Episode: Connections: Bob Dylan plus new and vintage music

May 25, 2018 episode of Connections on WPKN with Eric Cocks, filling in for my good friend Chris Frantz the Talking Head. It's a celebration of Bob Dylan, including rarities, alternate takes and live performances, plus new and vintage music.

After doing a Bob Dylan 77th Birthday Special on Thursday, I felt like going even deeper on Friday's show, exploring music from various stages of Bob's creativity. I believe Bob's work will still be known hundreds of years from now, and it's always enjoyable to listen to what he was doing in different time periods. The show starts with Bob's music, goes to other areas and returns to Dylan frequently.

There's also music by The Kinks, Iggy Pop, The Zombies, Sam Phillips, Talking Heads, Lisa Germano, Op8, Lou Reed, The Beach Boys, Liz Phair, David Lindley, The Shangri-Las, a brief reading from "Bob Dylan: Performing Artist" by Paul Williams and an experiment with a bag of records.

Plus new music by John Wesley Harding with Lou Reed, Yo La Tengo, Marian Hill, Tracyanne & Danny, Childish Gambino, Angelique Kidjo covering Talking Heads, Nathaniel Radcliff & The Night Sweats, Flasher, Beach House, The Gaping Wholes, Mike Stand of The Squeaky Chairs and whatever happened in the moment.

Also a brief appearance and two live songs by Jon and Eric of Mojo, courtesy of Catherine Conroy of WPKN.

Thanks for tuning in!

There's also a link to the archives of the Thursday May 24, 2018 two hour tribute to Bob Dylan on his 77th birthday:

Plenty of rarities, alternate takes and live performances in that one, too...
