Episode: 07.15.24: Counterpoint host Scott Harris on GOP attempts to use failed assassination to shut down criticism of Trump; Left victory in French elections offers lessons to US; Poll finds Americans reject Project 2025; Voters of Tomorrow target youth vote

Counterpoint, hosted by Scott Harris, is heard every Monday night on WPKN 89.5 FM, Bridgeport, CT between 8:00 – 9:30 pm ET. Webstreaming and audio archive at http://wpkn.org

1) Michael Podhorzer, former political director and assistant to the president of the AFL-CIO for strategic research, now Board Chair for the Analyst Institute. He shares his views on the assassination attempt against Donald Trump, growing pressure on Joe Biden among many Democrats and donors to drop out of the election campaign, and if he does the plausible way forward to select a new, viable candidate,-- and the existential threat posed by Trump and his clearly white supremacist, authoritarian agenda.

2) Jonah Birch, a contributing editor at Jacobin magazine, discusses the election victory of France's New Popular Front which blocked the extreme right National Rally party from taking power, touching some of the issues discussed in his recent article, "Can France’s Left Build a People’s Union?" -- while exploring lessons we can apply here in the U.S. to defeat the threat of Trump-GOP authoritarianism.

3) Bryan Bennett Senior Director, Polling & Analytics at the Hub Project discusses the group's recent Navigator Research report and poll which found "a majority of Americans believe the far-right Project 2025 agenda represents what Trump stands for—and shows how a victory by the Republican would endanger people across the country" -- while also finding that 77% of respondent had heard nothing or very little about Project 2025.

4) Bayly Hoehne, Chief of Staff with the national group Voters of Tomorrow, and Chair of Connecticut High School Democrats, mentioned prominently in the recent New Yorker magazine article, "Do the Democrats Have a Gen Z Problem?" discusses the work she's doing with V.O.T., and her views on what's at stake for young people and the nation in the 2024 presidential and congressional election.
