Episode: Connections with Eric Cocks: Bowie, Dylan, Kinks, Beatles, new music and Special Guest Chris Frantz

Jan 15, 2016 episode of Connections on WPKN with Eric Cocks. New and vintage music, a tribute to David Bowie and a conversation with my good friend Chris Frantz, drummer and founding member of Talking Heads and Tom Tom Club.

Through his music, art, film roles, style, images and presentation, David Bowie was a shape shifter… always willing to change. Always willing to take chances, try something new and see where that might lead him, and then be willing to change again. During the course of the show, I play a small percentage of Bowie songs that I love, mixing them in with songs by artists who were also willing to change, including Bob Dylan, The Beatles, The Kinks, The Beach Boys and Bobby Darin. (I would have liked to have also added Harry Nilsson, Neil Young, Brian Eno and others.)

The show is largely improvised, playing whatever felt right in the moment. There's also music from Hillary Bratton (covering Barry Reynolds), Paper Pilots, Gracie and Rachel, Tycho, Warren Zevon, Dusty Springfield, Nick Lowe and Tom Tom Club.

About half way through the show, I'm joined by my very special guest, Chris Frantz. (Tina Weymouth had planned to be here, but was under doctor's orders not to talk and to rest her throat.)

Chris and I talk about David Bowie, the upcoming rare Tom Tom Club show on Jan 23rd at Fairfield Theatre Company Warehouse, the origins of Tom Tom Club and play a number of songs, including rare remixes, having a few laughs along the way.

Also a brief appearance by Mike Stand from The Squeaky Chairs.

Thanks to Chris for joining me.

Thanks to David Bowie for the wonderful music, art and entertainment.

Thanks for tuning in!
