Episode: 08.17.20: Counterpoint host Scott Harris discusses Joe Biden's pick of Kamala Harris as his running mate; Countering Trump's sabotage of the US Post Office; Trump regime's war against nuclear arms control & Demand for a new trial for Jamil Al-Amin

Counterpoint, hosted by Scott Harris, is heard every Monday night on WPKN 89.5 FM, Bridgeport, CT between 8:00 - 10:00 pm ET. Webstreaming and audio archive at http://wpkn.org

1) Kevin Alexander Gray, a lifelong social justice activist and author who served as Jesse Jackson’s South Carolina presidential campaign manager in 1988. Here Gray, who is co-editor of the book, “Killing Trayvons: An Anthology of American Violence,” talk about his views on presumptive Democratic Presidential nominee Joe Biden's selection of Senator Kamala Harris as his running mate -- her record, and the work ahead to ensure that police violence targeting communities of color and systemic racism will be a major issue debated in the presidential campaign. As well as what activists must do after the election to maintain pressure for substantive change.

2) Sarah Kendzior author of, "Hiding in Plain Sight: The Invention of Donald Trump and the Erosion of America," and co-host of Gaslit Nation, a weekly podcast which covers corruption in the Trump administration and the rise of authoritarianism around the world. She'll examine the Trump regime's open sabotage of the US Postal Service in advance of the November election -- and the lack of a substantive response from the Democratic Party or the U.S. Constitutionally established institutions that are designated to act as checks and balances on abusive executive power.

3) Mel Goodman, a senior fellow at the Center for International Policy and an adjunct professor of international relations at Johns Hopkins University with a previous 42-year government career at the CIA and State Department. He'll talk about his recent article, "Trump’s War On Arms Control and Disarmament," with a focus on the expiration of the New START Treaty in February 2021, Trump's possible decision to resume nuclear tests after a 22-year international moratorium -- and what arms control policies an incoming Biden administration would likely bring to the White House.

4) Kairi Al-Amin, an attorney and son of Jamil Abdullah Al-Amin, formerly known as H. Rap Brown, who was the fifth chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee in the 1960s. Kairi discusses his work campaigning for a new trial for his 76-year-old Muslim minister father, who is serving a life-term without parole for the March 2000 shooting of two Fulton County, Georgia deputies, one of whom died. Kairi also talks about his request for his father's transfer from the U.S. Federal Penitentiary in Tucson, AZ, back to the state of Georgia to better meet his medical needs.
