Episode: 04.08.24: Counterpoint host Scott Harris discusses Trump's plan for authoritarian rule; Israel attack on Iran embassy could trigger regional war; GOP weaponizes disinformation on immigration; Congressional TikTok ban ignores larger issue of data privacy

Counterpoint, hosted by Scott Harris, is heard every Monday night on WPKN 89.5 FM, Bridgeport, CT between 8:00 – 9:30 pm ET. Webstreaming and audio archive at http://wpkn.org

1) Wendy Via President & Co-Founder of the Global Project Against Hate and Extremism discusses her group's important investigation on "Project 2025: The Far-Right Playbook for American Authoritarianism," the Trump for President campaign's blueprint for their administration should they win the 2024 election that threatens Americans’ civil and human rights and our very democracy.

2) Melvin Goodman, a senior fellow at the Center for International Policy, professor of government at Johns Hopkins University, an author and a former CIA analyst, discusses his recent article,"Meet the Newest Apologist for Israel: Rear Admiral John Kirby," and also -- in light of the deadly IDF attack on World Central Kitchen staff -- he'll assess the Israeli military's adherence to international law prioritizing the protection of civilians, humanitarian aid workers and journalists, as well as U.S. complicity in the carnage.

3) Phillip HoSang, an intern at FAIR.org and a second-year Master’s student in NYU’s Media, Culture and Communications program talks about his recent FAIR article, "Fox News Border Stats Distort Immigration Reality," and the politically weaponized disinformation surrounding U.S. immigration issues.

4) Nathan Schneider, Professor of Media Studies at the University of Colorado, Boulder who discusses opposition to the recent House passage of H.R. 7521, the “Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act,” that would ban TikTok unless it's sold to a US company, the larger issue of Big Tech's access and sale of American's personal data, and the urgent need for a new social media business model, such as a democratic ownership structure.
