Episode: Connections: Talking Heads, Punk, New Wave and Indy with Special Guest Chris Frantz

April 21, 2017 special edition of Connections on WPKN with Eric Cocks, Chris Frantz and Deb Guhl. Includes in depth conversations about several Talking Heads songs, along with the stories behind writing and recording these classics. Also a wide variety of music that came to be called punk or new wave, along with music that inspired the sound, the feel or the attitude of independence that made the music so vital.

Along the way, drummer, producer and songwriter Chris Frantz tells some amazing stories about the early days of CBGB's, Patti Smith, Richard Hell, The Ramones and encounters with Chrissy Hynde, The Buzzcocks and others while on tour. Also how Seymour Stein signed Talking Heads to Sire Records, the first Talking Heads recording session and more. Many great laughs and spontaneous humor throughout the show.

In addition to Talking Heads, music includes The Ramones in mono, The Patti Smith Group, Richard Hell & The Void-Oids, Bo Diddley, previously unreleased Alex Chilton, Little Richard, Plastic Bertrand, The Who, Bob Dylan, Blondie, Jonathan Richman & The Modern Lovers, The Shangri-Las, Bob Marley & The Wailers, Buzzcocks, M, The Blues Magoos, Lou Reed, The Specials, The Squeaky Chairs and whatever happened in the moment.

Great thanks to my good friends Chris Frantz and Deb Guhl for joining me on air throughout the show for this very special special, which was also a low key fundraiser for WPKN. You can still donate by calling 203-331-9756 or online at wpkn.org. Tell 'em Eric, Chris and Deb sent you.

Thanks for tuning in!
