Episode: Connections: Additional Highlights from the new Bob Dylan Bootleg Series 16 and Beach Boys Feel Flows box sets plus new and vintage music

October 1, 2021 episode of Connections with Eric Cocks. It’s spontaneous! It’s non-linear!! New and vintage music plus additional deep explorations of the new Bob Dylan Bootleg Series, Vol. 16 (Springtime in New York 1980-1985) and The Beach Boys Feel Flows box sets.

Both of these box sets are spectacular! Fantastic sound, while exploring the creative process of brilliant artists.

The Dylan box set includes unexpected cover versions of classic songs, unreleased songs, alternate takes, demos, rehearsals and live performances. It’s amazing that he has 5 cds of high quality unreleased music from 1980-1985 that stands up well with all that he’s done and is a joy to listen to, all these years later.

The Beach Boys box sets focuses on a very creative period for the band, mostly from 1970 and 1971 when Carl Wilson, Dennis Wilson and Al Jardine were getting much more involved as songwriters and producers, creating songs with a very different vibe from earlier times. Some of this show focuses closely on Carl Wilson’s brilliance as a singer, songwriter and producer, taking sounds to another level. Also a deep look at Dennis Wilson’s evolution as a songwriter and producer, exploring unreleased music, works in progress and songs that should have been released in 1970/1971 that might have been classics. Great vocals by both Carl and Dennis on all of these songs!!

There are a couple of previously unreleased live songs by The Kinks from their delightful box set released earlier this year.

The show also includes new music by Bruce Sudano, Shelby Lynne, Parquet Courts, Brian Wilson at the piano, Maria Taylor, Eels, Pond, The Du-Rites, Brandi Carlile, The War On Drugs, Nell Smith & The Flaming Lips, Lime Cordiale & Idrisa Elba, M. Ward, Colleen, The Squeaky Chairs, The Grey Areas, The Imposter Syndromes and whatever happened in the moment.

Sometimes the connections only become apparent later… even to me!

Thanks for tuning in!!!
