Episode: 07.06.20: Counterpoint host Scott Harris discusses Big Pharma price gouging in the age of COVID19; Understanding the context of the Russia Afghan bounty story; Israel's plan to Annex Palestinian West Bank; Desegregate Connecticut: a new campaign

Counterpoint, hosted by Scott Harris, is heard every Monday night on WPKN 89.5 FM, Bridgeport, CT between 8:00 - 10:00 pm ET. Webstreaming and audio archive at http://wpkn.org

1) Peter Maybarduk, Director of Public Citizens Global Access to Medicines Program, discusses pharmaceutical company Gilead's pricing of the drug remdesivir at $3,120, used for treating patients with coronavirus, which is "ten times higher than the cost-effective benchmark price." He'll also talk about the related issue of Public Citizen's push to have Big Pharma commit to not raising prices of any medication during the course of the COVID-19 pandemic.

2) Matthew Hoh, Senior Fellow with the Center For International Policy who in 2009 resigned his position with the State Department in Afghanistan in protest of the escalation of the Afghan War by the Obama administration. Here he discusses the veracity of recent reports alleging that the Russian government had placed a $100,000 bounty on U.S. and coalition soldiers in Afghanistan, the history of Washington's military campaigns against Russian forces in Afghanistan, and the history of covert disinformation campaigns waged to influence U.S. foreign policy.

3) Ramzy Baroud, Editor of Palestine Chronicle assesses the consequences if Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu moves forward with his plan to annex 30% of the Palestinian West Bank in violation of International law - and the likely response from U.S. and the international community, progressive political groups and members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus.

4) Sara Bronin, Chair of Hartford's Planning and Zoning Commission; Professor at the University of Connecticut School of Law; and active member of Desegregate Connecticut discusses the work her group is doing to desegregate Connecticut and ensure a more just and equitable state.
