Episode: Connections: The Beatles Revolver at 50 plus new and vintage music

August 5, 2016 episode of Connections on WPKN with Eric Cocks. New and vintage music, world radio premieres and an in depth exploration of The Beatles album Revolver on the 50th anniversary of its release.

All these years later, Revolver is still highly influential, both in its sound and the ability to combine fantastic songwriting and production with innovative recording techniques. The show includes several songs from Revolver on vinyl, with some in mono and some in stereo from MFSL half speed masters, along with some thoughts on The Beatles, George Martin, Geoff Emerick, Klaus Voorman and how they created this amazing, enduring work of art and music.

The show includes music from The Byrds, David Bowie, Lou Reed, Tony Visconti, Annette Peacock, T. Rex, Simon & Garfunkel, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Bob Dylan and George Harrison, along with new music from Ian Hunter, Esme Patterson, Anna Rose, Jenny O., Jagwar Ma, Nice As F**k (featuring Jenny Lewis), Richard Barone (with John Sebastian), Allah-Las, Rose McGowan, Aphex Twin, Euphoria, Metronomy and Regina Spektor.

Plus radio premieres of new music by my good friend, Oscar winning composer Alan Menken, with some demos from his upcoming musical version of A Bronx Tale, which will debut on Broadway in November. It's based on the work of Chazz Palminteri (who appears on some of these demos). The show will be co-directed by Robert DeNiro and Jerry Zaks. More info is available at www.abronxtalethemusical.com

Also an experimental piece in tribute to Revolver and The Beatles combining 1964 tape loops by William S. Burroughs with new music by Aphex Twin and early work by electronic music pioneer Karlheinz Stockhausen. (Note: Burroughs taught Paul McCartney how to make tape loops, which were used extensively on Tomorrow Never Knows.)

Plus a brief appearance by Mike Raphone of The Squeaky Chairs and whatever happened in the moment.

Thanks for tuning in!
