Episode: Connections: Beatles movie premiere, Dylan, new and vintage music

Sep 16, 2016 episode of Connections on WPKN with Eric Cocks. New and vintage music, plus a special section to start the show after seeing the NYC premiere of The Beatles new film, Eight Days A Week. To me, it was a way to get a deeper feeling of what it was like for John, Paul, George and Ringo to be inside the bubble. Great humor. Wonderful sense of humanity. Amazing music. The first 15 to 20 minutes of the show features live versions of songs in the movie, including some that had never been released before September 2016.

From there, the show goes on to include live music and rarities from Bob Dylan, The Zombies, T-Rex, The Rutles, The Turtles (from their newly remastered release of A-sides and B-sides), The Monkees (featuring Harry Nilsson), a rarity by The Photons, Spirit, Sandy Shaw, Sam Phillips (who is finishing up a new album), Esquivel, Wendy Carlos, The Nazz, T-Bone Burnett, Elvis Costello, Bo Diddley, Warren Zanes, The Rolling Stones, Matt Keating, Euphoria, a George Harrison demo, a John Lennon demo, a Beatles work in progress, a very cool cover by Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, a rare b-side by Bob Dylan (never released on cd) and more.

Also new music from Steve Addabbo, Richard Barone of The Bongos (from his upcoming album Sorrows & Promises: Greenwich Village in the 60's, produced by Steve Addabbo), Rachel Yamagata, Agnes Obel, Thundercat, Wilco, Fujiya & Miyagi, Annabelle Lord Paley, Sylvan Esso, performance art by Mike Raphone of The Squeaky Chairs and whatever happened in the moment.

And while I remember, a joke from the premiere of Eight Days A Week that I meant to mention on air: While Stevie Van Zandt and Paul Shaffer were introducing the film of "the best band ever", Paul mentioned that Stevie had just played a four hour set with Bruce Springsteen the night before, saying how it was a bit longer than Beatles sets, which were only twenty minutes. Stevie said some nights were longer than The Beatles whole tour.
They both agreed that this music will last forever. So do I.
