Episode: 02.08.21: Counterpoint host Scott Harris discusses Ben & Jerry's campaign on ending police qualified immunity; Trump impeachment, GOP & democracy; Biden foreign policy & Re-prioritizing CT state budget and taxes

Counterpoint, hosted by Scott Harris, is heard every Monday night on WPKN 89.5 FM, Bridgeport, CT between 8:00 - 10:00 pm ET. Webstreaming and audio archive at http://wpkn.org

1) Jerry Greenfield, who with Ben Cohen is a co-founder of Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream, talks about their campaign to end qualified immunity -- the Supreme Court doctrine that shields law enforcement officers from being personally sued for actions performed in the line of duty. If they succeed it will make it easier for Americans to sue police officers who abuse their authority, a move that reform advocates say is a key step towards substantive police reform.

2) Marge Baker, Executive Vice President for Policy and Program with People for the American Way, discusses the House of Representatives vote to remove Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) from her Congressional committee assignments, the emergence of an extremist faction within the GOP that advocates violence and conspiracy theories -- and the future of our democracy.

3) Kevin Martin, President of Peace Action and the Peace Action Education Fund, discusses the Biden administration's announcement that they would end U.S. support for the Saudi/UAE-led war on Yemen -- and the recent U.S. - Russian agreement to extend the New START nuclear weapons treaty by five years.

4) CT State Representatives Robyn Porter (D-New Haven and Quentin Phipps (D-Middletown) talk about their proposals to increase taxes on the state's wealthiest citizens and corporations and lift spending limits — in order to invest billions on behalf of CT residents who have been hurt most by the coronavirus pandemic.
